FAQ

  • What do I need to bring for my cottage stay?
    • Please plan on bringing food, paper towels, condiments and shampoo. We provide a hairdryer, toilet paper, bar soap, all linens and bedding. Your kitchens are provided with basic cooking and eating utensils, coffee filters and dish soap.

  • Can I grill?
    • Yes! Each cottage and lodge at Lake Park has its own gas grill. If you are at one of our RV or tent sites, you are more than welcome to bring your own charcoal or gas grill with you.

  • Can I put a tent up beside our cottage or by my RV site?
    • We allow tents to be set up at our designated tent sites. The RV sites do not have enough room to accommodate a tent without being on the grass or infringing on someone else’s site. Tents are very hard on the grass and we also have underground sprinklers which run in the night.

  • Do you have WiFi?
    • Yes! While the true fun of Lake Park Campground lies in the outdoors, we pride ourselves on offering WiFi to our guests, as well.

  • Can I charge my electric vehicle?
    • We do not have provisions to charge the batteries of an electric vehicle.  The only option available at this time would be to reserve a separate RV site for that purpose.

  • Large celebrations and get-togethers:
    • When in doubt, please feel free to call or email us with specific questions you may have! While our property is set up to provide ample parking for those staying in one of our cottages and homes, it is not set up for a large group of people that are not staying at Lake Park. We ask that guests also respect our quiet hours, which begin at dusk.

  • Cancellations:
    • Due to the demand of our cottages and the short season, we adhere to our cancellation policies as shown here. We highly encourage you to purchase trip insurance in case of needed cancellations. Keep in mind that most trip insurance plans require you to make the purchase very soon after making your booking.

  • What about pets?
    • Unfortunately, we do not at this time allow pets in the cottages or cottage areas. Supervised, well-behaved pets are welcome in the tent and RV sites with a daily fee. A dog park and dog walk are conveniently located near us for you to explore.

  • Do you have a pool?
    • We do not have an on-site pool. Try out our creek for wading and splashing around! Also, check out the Jimmy Hilton Municipal pool, located only 5 minutes away!

  • Are you centrally located?
    • We are centrally located near many destinations. Mt. Rushmore is only thirty minutes away and many of the area attractions are within that radius. The Badlands are only forty-five minutes to the East, and Deadwood about the same distance to the North. We enjoy helping plan your daily itinerary and excursions. We have a list of things to do nearby on our maps page.

  • Do you allow campfires?
    • No, we do not have provisions for campfires due to the proximity of other camping sites. However, we do allow gas and charcoal fires. There are a number of locations nearby where it is possible to have a campfire for a picnic or evening meal such as Sheridan Lake and the picnic shelters here at Canyon Lake.

  • How far is it to the grocery store and places to eat?
    • We are on the West edge of Rapid City just off of Highway 44. Major chain grocery stores are about 3 miles away, with numerous places to eat within 5 miles. We are just 4 miles away from Downtown Rapid City – a country feel with city appeal! Be sure to check out the local Farmer’s markets in the summer and food trucks year round.
