About Lake Park Campground and Cottages

Is Lake Park Campground and Cottages open year-round?

We are open year-round. We also offer long term rentals in the off-season September-May. Reservations are suggested to ensure we are available to greet you and give you access to the shower house and Wi-Fi along with directions to the water. 

We are centrally located near many destinations. Mt. Rushmore is only thirty minutes away and many of the area attractions are within that radius. The Badlands are only forty-five minutes to the East, and Deadwood and Spearfish Canyon about the same distance to the North. We enjoy helping plan your daily itinerary and excursions. We have a list of things to do nearby on our maps page.

(From I-90) take exit 57 (Hwy 16) at first intersection take Hwy 44 West 4 miles following Omaha St., then Mountain View, then Jackson Blvd. When you see the lake on your left prepare to turn left onto Chapel lane. Go one block to the entrance Lake Park Campground and Cabins.

Coming from (South 79) take Catron Blvd exit, then veer left, cross Hwy 16, and continue till Sheridan lake rd. Then turn right and then left at first intersection (Corral Drive) then first right on (Park) go until it dead ends at Jackson Blvd. take a left and go until you see the lake on your left prepare to turn on Chapel Lane to the left. Go one block until you see the entrance Lake Park Campground and Cabins. (next left)

Yes, all our cabins have window air conditioning. Lodges have central air.
Yes, all our cabins and vacation homes have smart TV’s.

Yes! While the true fun of Lake Park Campground lies in the outdoors, we pride ourselves on offering high-speed Wi-Fi, smart TV’s for streaming, and great cell service throughout the property – perfect for a cozy movie night or checking in with family. 

Yes, we do have coin-operated on-site laundry facilities for our guests to use. Change and laundry soap are also available in the office. Our vacation homes have in-house laundry and detergent is provided.
People rent cabins for a more private, cozy, and immersive experience in nature. Cabins offer a comfortable and spacious retreat, ours are equipped with amenities like fully equipped cooking kitchens, a private outdoor cooking gas grill, which provides a home-like atmosphere. Renting a cabin is ideal for those seeking relaxation, adventure, or quality time with family and friends.

Pets, Campfires and Outdoor Rules

At this time, we do not allow pets in the cabins or cabins areas. While, supervised, well-behaved pets are welcome in the tent and RV sites with a daily fee. A dog park and dog walk are conveniently located near us for you to explore.

No, we do not have provisions for campfires due to the proximity of other camping sites. However, we do allow gas and charcoal fires. All of the cabins and vacation homes have their own outside gas grill. There are a number of locations nearby where it is possible to have a campfire for a picnic or evening meal such as the picnic shelters here at Canyon Lake.

To keep things comfortable for everyone (and dry at night), tents are not allowed beside cabins or RV sites. Sprinklers run overnight, and space can get tight. However, we have great designated tent sites that are level, shaded and located close to the shower house and restrooms for your convenience. 

We cannot guarantee that you will see wildlife during your stay. However, it is common for guests to see wild turkeys, rabbits and squirrels along with deer during their stay. In the past we have also had mountain goats nearby. The lake draws in many different species of birds. To list a few; Blue Herring, Osprey, many different varieties of ducks and being on the lake of course turtles and many fish (mainly Rainbow Trout). Eagles are generally more prevalent during the Spring and Fall months. 

RV and Travel Information

All accommodations allow for one vehicle but additional vehilces can be accommodated. It is helpful to make arrangements in advance when you have extra vehicles. Upon check-in you will be directed where to park your extra vehicle or trailer. You may leave your vehicle attached to the trailer, or you may “drop” the trailer if you wish. If you drop your trailer, please be sure to bring any necessary locks/wheel chocks to secure your trailer. Please be aware that if you are dropping a trailer and traveling with a motorcycle as well, parking next to cabins/rooms is limited and you may be required to leave your primary vehicle attached to the trailer. 

Staying with us at Lake Park Campground, you will feel like you’ve joined a small family. We want you to enjoy the Black Hills and all it has to offer as much as we enjoy living here, and want to share it with you. We suggest many of our favorites on our blog. You will be provided assistance in parking your rig if you want help and soon after you get settled, you will be able to enjoy our park and park like setting as you meander down to the lake or meet your neighbors.

Yes, we do offer discounted rates during the different seasons. Lower rates are generally available before Memorial Day and beginning again in mid/late August and again mid September thru the winter. Please feel free to call us at 605-341-5320 and we will check availability and let you know of any special off-season rates. You will also always be offered our lowest available rate when booking online during the reservation process.

Additional Information

Due to the demand of our cabins and the short season, we adhere to our cancellation policies as shown here. Cancellation Fees: $30.00 + tax for RV and tent sites, $50.00 + tax for cabins. If you need to cancel your reservation, we require:

  • RV and Tent Sites – 48 hours notice prior to your arrival date. A cancellation fee of $30 plus tax applies to all RV/Tent site cancellations.
  • Cabins and Lodges – A cancellation fee of $50 plus tax applies to all cabins cancellations. All lodge cancellations will have a cancellation fee equal to 4% plus tax or $50 plus tax, whichever is greater. of the deposit paid. Cabins and Lodge Bookings canceled at least 14 days before the start of the stay will receive a full refund minus the cancellation fee. Bookings canceled at least 7 days before the start of the stay will receive a 50% refund. Except for Bike Week Bookings August 1 – 16.
  • Sturgis Motorcycle Rally – Reservations during this time are not refundable unless we resale the booking – subject to 20% fee.

Partial cancellations: the deposit will first be applied to cancelled nights that have not been re-booked.

We highly encourage you to purchase trip insurance in case of needed cancellations. Keep in mind that most trip insurance plans require you to make the purchase very soon after making your booking.

Yes! Each cabin and lodge at Lake Park has its own gas grill. If you are at one of our RV or tent sites, you are more than welcome to bring your own charcoal or gas grill with you.

We do not have provisions to charge the batteries of an electric vehicle. The only option available at this time is to reserve a separate RV site for that purpose.

When in doubt, please feel free to call or email us with specific questions you may have! While our property is set up to provide ample parking for those staying in one of our cabins and homes, it is not set up for a large group of people that are not staying at Lake Park. We ask that guests also respect our quiet hours, which begin at dusk.

We do not have an on-site pool. Try out our creek for wading and splashing around! Also, check out the Jimmy Hilton Municipal pool, located only 5 minutes away!

We are on the West edge of Rapid City just off of Highway 44. Major chain grocery stores are about 3 miles away, with numerous places to eat within 5 miles. We are just 4 miles away from Downtown Rapid City – a country feel with city appeal! Be sure to check out the local Farmers markets in the summer and food trucks year round.
