Our Story

Lake Park Campground & Cabins began in the 1940's as a guest ranch, where visitors arrived with their horses and stayed in quaint cabins beneath the pines, and larger cottonwoods. Over time, the property changed hands and purpose - from neighborhood housing in the 1960's to it's heartfelt return as a family vacation spot in the 1990's. Today, three generations of our family have poured love and hard work into keeping the original spirit alive - a place where guest can slow down, make memories, and feel right at home.

Family Owned and Operated

For more than 30 years, we’ve lived and worked right here at the campground. Our kids grew up helping guests, and now our grandkids do too. We’re proud to carry on the tradition of genuine hospitality – helping families plan their trips, offering local advice, and making sure every stay feels personal and relaxed.

A place that feels like "Mayberry"

There’s something timeless about this place. Acres of green lawns and shaded by mature trees, you’ll see kids riding bikes down to catch a “new” friend to ride with, neighbors chatting by their barbecues and guests strolling down past the playground to the lake to fish or splash in the water. It’s peaceful, friendly, and full of the old-fashioned charm you don’t find much more.

Your Stay

Our cozy, fully furnished cabins offer all the comforts of home – from full-size kitchens and soft linens to air conditioning, heat, and wi-fi. RV travelers enjoy full-hookups. under shaded trees with 30/50 amp that can accommodate any size rig. Whether you’re here for a few nights or a week, you’ll find it easy to settle in, unwind, and enjoy your time.

Experience the Black Hills like a Local

We love sharing what we know about the Black Hills – from scenic drives to hidden hiking trails. Hundreds of trailheads are just a short drive away. From the campground and cabins, you can hop on the paved bike path that winds through Rapid City’s park system created by a 1972 flood. We’re also close to the 100 mile Mickelson Trail, a favorite among cyclists. For adventures, there’s world – class rock climbing, water sports either on our paddle only lake or there are many other larger lakes to explore.

Local Flavor & Community Fun

On Tuesdays, local food trucks roll up to the lake, and twice a week you can browse nearby markets for fresh produce and regional laborites. It’s all par for the relaxed, friendly, atmosphere that make Lake Park Campground feel like a true community.

On Wednesdays, Main St Square in downtown Rapid City, hosts free movie nights and during the day the kids can beat the heat and enjoy the water pad.

In the Heart of the Black Hills

Our location couldn’t be better – right in the center of the Black Hills, just minutes from Mount Rushmore, Spearfish Canyon, and the Badlands. Enjoy breath taking views around every corner. Each day brings a new adventure within reach.
